Chimney scaffold part of OSHA standards for workers with respiratory diseases
Chimney beams are an integral part of many home construction projects and a tool in a construction job that requires high-tech, specialized tools.
But some workers, particularly those with respiratory problems, could not afford them and could not be exposed to the elements.
In many cases, chimney beams have been replaced with a standard OSHA-compliant piece of wood.
OSHA is also developing a standard for the construction of chimney braces, which are part of the scaffolding system that supports structures on the ground.
This new standard is expected to be ready by the end of the year.
